  • The photodynamic technology combine a drug, known as a photosensitiser, with a light source that activates the photosensitiser

  • Has three products with marketing authorisations:
         o Metvix®, for the treatment of basal cell carcinoma (skin cancer), actinic keratosis 
            (pre-cancerous skin lesions) and Bowen’s disease
         o Aktilite® CL 16 and CL 128, lamps that are intended for use in PDT (Photodynamic
            therapy) in combination with Metvix®
         o Hexvix®, for the detection of bladder cancer


  • Operate in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden

  • Cooperates with two marketing partners for the global market:
          o Galderma, a leading dermatology company (licensed Metvix® and Aktilite® from
             Photocure
             in December 2001)
          o GE Healthcare, a leader in imaging (licensed Hexvix® from Photocure in January
             2006)

  • Photocure s also developing photochemical internalisation (PCI) which is a technology for light-directed drug delivery
          o PCI Biotech AS, a subsidiary of Photocure, was established on 2000 to ensure an
             optimal development of the PCI technology
