Bladder Cancer: New study in the U.S. reports on association between smoking and risk of recurrence
Published: 3 June 2021Medical Information
**Photocure, The Bladder Cancer Company, announces a new publication from the "Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview® Registry". This Photocure registry (Clinicaltrials NCT02660645) aims to gather valuable information on specific clinical questions in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC).**
Since its inception in 2014, more than 2000 patients have been enrolled in the registry, 4 studies have been published in peer reviewed journals in addition to 18 abstracts presented at medical conferences directly from this data collection. The registry continues to enroll patients, add participating locations, and will continue to provide access to valuable real-life data on the management and treatment of NMIBC to produce further research and publications in this field.
The most recent publication from this patient registry reports on the relationship between smoking status and risk of recurrence. Smoking has a strong causal association with bladder cancer occurrence but the relationship with recurrence of the disease is not well established. This analysis of more than 700 patients shows that smoking status was not significantly associated with recurrence in patients with predominantly high-risk recurrent NMIBC managed with photodynamic enhanced cystoscopy.
